The Riverside, Corona and Southern California area has 2 kinds of termites. Subterranean termite and drywood termite. Most of the time it may not be obvious due to the nature of termites. There are some signs you can look for and they include the following:
A. Visible damage
Termites can cause significant damage to wooden structures, including floors, walls, and furniture. Look out for visible signs of damage, such as buckling wood, swollen floors or ceilings, or holes in wood.
B. Mud tubes
Termites build mud tubes to protect themselves as they travel between their nests and their food sources. These tubes are often found on the exterior of homes, along foundation walls or in crawl spaces.
C. Discarded wings
Termites often shed their wings after swarming. Look for piles of wings near windows, doors, or other entry points.
D. Hollow sounding wood
If you tap on wooden structures and they sound hollow, it may be a sign that termites have been feeding on the wood.
E. Frass or droppings
Probably the most common sign. Termite droppings, or "frass," can often be found near termite tunnels or in other areas where termites are active. Frass can resemble sawdust or small pellets.
